Easter Market: A Weekend Filled with Joy, a Sense of Community and Charity

The day carried on with plenty of activities and attractions, treating attendees to a vibrant program of Ukrainian culture and traditions.

The Ukrainian community in Denmark has grown significantly in recent years, partly due to the arrival of thousands seeking refuge within Denmark's safe borders. This growth is also fuelled by a strong spirit of unity and solidarity among locals and foreigners alike. Over the weekend, initiated by charity NGO Ukraines fremtid - Nødhjælp & Genopbygning, project Secondfrontdkua - ambulances to Ukraine and Lastivka, the European Ukrainian hub in Copenhagen hosted an Easter market and concert, serving as a celebration of spring and an example to the community's ongoing support for Ukraine. The event aimed to present and engage the local community in Ukrainian traditions and raise funds for emergency medical services on the frontlines in Ukraine.

The event commenced with a solemn reminder of its purpose. Alona Evans, the project coordinator, showed a presentation about the urgent needs of frontline medics and the results of work in 2023. Father Vasyl, from the Ukrainian Pastoral Ministry in Denmark, delivered a compelling speech that deeply resonated with attendees. He highlighted the profound message of redemption and sacrifice symbolised by Jesus' death and resurrection during Easter. “Good always overcomes evil, and we are all working for that,” he stated.

The day carried on with plenty of activities and attractions, treating attendees to a vibrant program of Ukrainian culture and traditions. Including musical performances and a wide variety of traditional foods, lovingly prepared by community members, alongside engaging workshops and interactive games for all ages.

The musical repertoire included performances by renowned artists, including Lithuanian singer Egidijus Luksys, singer Igor, and Ukrainian singers Lyubov and Alla, who filled the atmosphere with energy and excitement. The guests of the fair also enjoyed the songs of the Runa-band. As part of the fair, an auction was held at which the works of Ukrainian artists were presented. In addition, the fair gave guests the opportunity to contribute to the cause by purchasing handmade souvenirs and Ukrainian food.
