Educational Dialogue: Meeting of Ukrainian Educators and the Community of Denmark at The European-Ukrainian Hub

Ukrainian community in Denmark meets education leaders from Ukraine at The European-Ukrainian Hub.

XXIII Educational Tour of the Nordic countries

On October 27, 2024, a significant meeting took place between the Ukrainian community in Denmark and the leaders and representatives of 54 educational institutions from Ukraine at The European-Ukrainian Hub. The event was part of the XXIII Educational Tour of the Nordic countries organized by the "Revived Gymnasiums of Ukraine" Association in cooperation with the Association of Ukrainians in Denmark (AUD), the NGO "Lastivka," the Ukrainian School "Rodovid" in Copenhagen, and the organization Hjælp Ukrainske Børn.

The meeting aimed to establish an open dialogue between Ukrainian educators and the community of Denmark, providing an opportunity to discuss the current challenges and prospects of Ukrainian education both within Ukraine and beyond its borders.

Main discussion topics:

Educational challenges and prospects in Ukraine:
Leaders of Ukrainian gymnasiums, lyceums, and colleges shared their experiences in adapting the educational system to wartime conditions, issues of distance learning, and the future of educational reform.

The role of Ukrainian schools abroad:
Lesya Igntyk-Eriksen, head of the Association of Ukrainians in Denmark, talked about the activities of Ukrainian community organizations in Denmark, their support for education, and advocacy initiatives.

The head of the largest Ukrainian organization in Denmark NGO "Lastivka", Lesya Rykhalska, shared the experience of Ukrainian schools in Denmark, which accept children every Saturday, providing an opportunity to preserve their native language and culture.

Cooperation between Ukrainian and European educational institutions:
Representatives of Ukrainian educational institutions discussed collaboration with European educational establishments, opportunities for internships, faculty exchanges, and joint educational programs.

The integration of Ukrainian children into the Danish education system:
Danish teacher Yulia Dmukh spoke about the peculiarities of educating Ukrainian children in Denmark, the differences between the Ukrainian and Danish educational systems, and the challenges that students and their parents face.

Cultural and humanitarian support for Ukrainians in Denmark:
Anna Voloshenko, Executive Director of the NGO “Hjælp Ukrainske Børn,” presented the completed project "Ukrainian Book" and "Ukrainian Shelf," through which more than 4,000 Ukrainian books were donated to the Royal Library of Denmark for Ukrainian access in public libraries in Denmark.
